She is a champion for women and girls developing confidence and skills through biking and doing their own repairs. She invites any women-identifying and gender non-conforming folks to join her at W/T/F (Women/Trans/Femme) Night. audrey@bikelibrary.org |
Drew BossLead Mechanic
Drew is a lifelong resident of Iowa and
has over a decade of experience in the
cycling industry. His knowledge will
be shared with the world in the form of
education. Teaching classes on
service and maintenance to the public and
training volunteers. He will also be
fixing up bikes for the rental program to
meet the demands of the community.
Ask this man a bike question and he should
have the answer or a direction to point
you in. He is a firm believer that the
world is a better place with more people
out riding bikes.

Kate believes that bikes are a form of
environmental, social and economic justice.
She appreciates the Bike Library's focus on
empowering the community through hands-on

the Des Moines Street Collective. As an

Dustin EubanksYouth Bike Coordinator
Dustin hails from central Iowa. He taught
in Des Moines Public Schools before moving
to Iowa City to coordinate outdoor
recreation programs for local teens. After
several years of hiking, kayaking, camping
and road tripping with the youths, he has
landed at (ridden into?) the Bike Library
to build out our youth programs and
introduce kiddos to the healthy outlet
that is the bike life. When he is not
cycling you can find him reading, cooking,
or hiking with his precious pup, Luka.

Karen StierlerVice President
Karen loves biking and believes that
there’s nothing better than the wind
in your face and the feeling of freedom
when you’re on a bike. She
enjoys traveling and exploring the world
on her bike. Last year was her first
six week bike packing trip on the Great
Divide trail and she’s hooked.
A former time-trial and road rider, these
days you’ll find her out on the
gravel and B roads, or on the trails with
her grandkids. She works full time
as the teen librarian at the Coralville
Public Library. Her goal is to get
as many people on bikes as possible,
especially kids. Bikes and books
– that’s what it’s all
about!

Frank Delno ‘Del’ Holland, IIISecretary
Talk to this environmental activist if
you want to know more about working on
kids bikes or if you want to know about
his passion for volunteering on
Wednesdays’ Salvage nights. Del most
enjoys biking because he likes to be in
the elements, and likes not buying fossil
fuels. When trails are a logical part of
his travel for transportation, it’s
icing on his cake. Del’s most
awesome biking feat was riding 117 miles
(in one day with camping gear in tow) to
attend a workshop in central Iowa. He then
hopped (by bike) down to the Iowa State
Fair to staff a renewable energy booth. To
Del, the Bike Library is a boon to the
cycling community, but—much more
broadly—a great environmental
benefit.

The Bike Library is where many of my
passions come together: building a
caring and resilient community for
everyone, repairing things, and
encouraging a culture of going more
places by bike. I am a City of Iowa City
Climate Ambassador and see the Bike
Library as a place where climate action
already takes place and has potential to
grow its impact as a leader in climate
action in our community. I’m so
excited to be on the board and support
the Bike Library’s work!

Mike HaverkampBoard Member
Mike will eagerly engage with you about
the beauty and practicality of
three-speed bikes. His bike skill sets
include teaching kids how to ride,
polishing chrome and protecting old
finishes. Perhaps he needs those last
two skills because he owns several bikes
that are older than he is. On his first
RAGBRAI in 1987, Mike rode a Panasonic
Touring Deluxe and rode it again on
RAGBRAI 2018. He adores riding through
Old St. Joseph's cemetery and past the
Black Angel in Oakland Cemetery.

The Bike Library is a welcoming and
supportive hub within our community that
allows folks to learn new skills, value
our environment, and embrace the many
aspects the bicycle can lend to our
well-being. The bicycle has been a
part of my childhood and has fostered
many memorable moments and
adventures. It expanded the
boundaries of my world that bought me so
much joy. I look forward to being
able to share that joy the bicycle has
brought me with others, specifically
young folks.

When I first learned about the Bike
Library I was amazed to discover that
such an incredible place existed in our
community. Since then I have been able
to learn many new skills in bike
mechanics, meet new friends, and be a
part of exciting community events. I am
so grateful to be on the Board of
Directors for the Bike Library. I want
to use my time on the Board to continue
to grow the mission of the organization
and to participate in community based
events that help get more people on
bikes in a safe, fun, educational
way!
